Produced by Waffenfabrik Bern in 1897 this is a fine example of a very rare Swiss Model 1893 Mannlicher carbine in perfect working order.

The stock is a very nice dark color in extremely good condition. There are only few handlig marks in the stock of only minor importance . Original bluing on this rifle is in excellent condition at least 95%. This rifle is serial number 45XX and was manufactured by Waffenfabrik Bern. All serials are matching on this rifle. Also, this particular rifle bears the inspection stamp of Major Vogelsang 1879-1912 characterized by a cross above and the “V” , Material certification stamps (cross above the S) and Swiss military acceptance stamp.

The Swiss in general were not particuarly pleased with the 1893 carbine as it was difficult to strip and reassemble the bolt and because of its poor accuracy. The 1893 was replaced by the Schmidt-Rubin 1905 Carbine.
Today, Model 1893 Carbines are rare. Many were destroyed during drills, where Swiss soldiers smashed the buttstocks of the 1893 against the ground as hard as they could. This, combined with the small number produced (4250 from SIG and 3500 from Waffenfabrik Bern ), results in price tags
